"The Privileged (Poor) Life of Wesley" all started from a phrase I heard at work one day. Somebody said they were living among the privileged poor. That got me thinking... doesn't that one phrase describe the way I live my life?
Even though I'm a struggling actor in New York City, one of the most expensive cities in the world, I still manage to live a privileged life. I have traveled all over the world, shop all the time, live very comfortably, and am quite happy. How do I do this (besides charging up my credit cards)? I work hard at being a personal assistant and a cater waiter when I'm not doing a show, but the key is that I find the cheap alternatives.
This show is all about exploring those alternatives and finding new ways to live among the privileged poor.
As an artist in a city that is constantly telling you no, I have discovered that no one is going to create an opportunity for you, you have to create your own means of artistic expression. This is it. A show created by me, about me, and for me.
I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed creating.
